I am comfortable that I did what my country asked of me. I think I have killed in combat, and it makes me
feel guilty, but I was putting fire on an enemy target. The Japanese soldiers could have just as easily put
               their fire on us.

The average age of the enlisted men was about 18, and they referred to themselves as "draft dodgers"
               because all were volunteers.

The Guadalcanal Campaign included over 60,000 ground forces; 7,100 were killed in action; 4 were
captured; 29 ships were lost, and 615 aircraft were lost.
