During my time as the Targets Chief, we bought several
Dune Buggies as targets for our attack aircraft. We
paid fifteen thousand dollars for each of those
vehicles.
Off the coast is a place called Piney Island.
Piney Island has been used as a bombing range since
World War Two. It was first used starting back in
1942.
At one point, I got a chance to use retired ships for
target practice. They had to have the windows removed
and that sort of thing before we could use them for
practice. Many of the items removed were returned to
the supply department for reuse. I think we returned
four hundred fifty thousand dollars’ worth of equipment
at one point.
