A Lebanese couple owned a restaurant we’d all go to
often. Anyway, on the way back, we went through a
little village; we were completely surrounded by
Haitians who were rocking the cars back and forth and
yelling something we could not understand.
Jean Rogers and I were sitting in the back seat of the
car with our children. We had put the children on the
floor to keep them safe. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
They just scared the crap out of us. After that, we
would not go out. We’d visit friends at their house or
our house to have cookouts and play cards.
In May, we were told to gather everything because the
women and children were going to be put on airplanes to
leave Haiti the next morning.
We had a 1955 pink and grey Chevy car that we sold for
$250. The night before leaving everything we owned; all
our clothing, except one overnight bag, was stolen.
All our clothing, my purse with all our money,
Kenneth’s shoes were all taken. We were in bed
sleeping when that happened, we didn’t hear anything.
We had not been sleeping well because we were a little
afraid of being robbed because other people had had
that happen to them. I got up that morning and reached
for my purse to get my comb, it was gone. I started
looking around and noticed our suitcase was gone.
