I’ll tell you a story about the “look-ons”. The men were “look-ons”. Our shower area was a field shower.
We had a fence surrounding it, but the men would climb trees to “look-on.” So, when you needed to take
a shower, there was nothing you could do but go take a shower. Those guys would climb the trees, so
they could see what was going on. We didn’t need the USO to come put on a show. We had to support
the troops!
After the war was over, my headquarters in Manila was transferred to Yokohama, Japan. I was a
replacement coordinator. I’d help locate men with different skills to fill needs all around Japan.
My message to today’s young people is to finish whatever you start. There is something special for each
of us to contribute.
