Perhaps a little background history might help:
1967:
“Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Inc. (VVAW) is a national Veterans' organization that was founded in
New York City in 1967 after six Vietnam vets marched together in a peace demonstration against the war
in Vietnam. Vietnam Veterans Against the War was organized to voice the growing opposition among
returning servicemen and women to the still-raging war in Indochina and grew rapidly to a membership of
over 30,000 throughout the United States as well as active duty GIs stationed in Vietnam.”

1968:
During his campaign for President, Richard Nixon promises to end the draft and the war in Vietnam.
4 May 1970:
The Kent State shootings, also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre occurred at
Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio. It involved the shooting of unarmed college students by
the Ohio National Guard, killing four students and wounding nine others.
Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign, which
President Richard Nixon announced in a television address on April 30, 1970. Other students who were
shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.
We were a nation at war. Although believe it or not; Congress never declared war. It was: The Vietnam
Conflict. It was not a war.
