“THOMAS HART'S WORDS
I am seventy-one and dying of congestive heart failure. I have family and
many people from Hospice and Mercy all helping me. There are ministers,
social workers, nurses, and doctors, and there's a woman, Joy, a former
English teacher and now a Hospice volunteer, who asks if I would be
interested in writing stories about my life and my lessons learned. Sure, I'm
willing. I like to talk, goodness knows!
If I can check that she got it right, I tell her she can share it with anyone. Joy
asks if I've ever had this many people around me taking care of me and
listening to me. No, I've never had so many people taking care of me. Today a
Hospice person, two friends, the hospital chaplain, good friend Mark, sister
Evie, daughter Cindy and her husband Russ have all been here visiting.
Tomorrow my in-laws are going to visit. People from work have visited me
as well.
