P. 32

You are about to read a little history through the
story-telling of several young soldiers who, whether
drafted or volunteered, served during a most troubling
time for our nation and, indeed, the world. They served
in our name. They deserve our respect.

The stories you are about to read are viewpoints of the
contributors. I do not proclaim to be the best or the

last word regarding the events. I simply wish to
provide a platform from which the contributors can tell
their stories – in their own words.

Many of the “facts” about the Vietnam War and the
Vietnam War “era” remain in dispute.

Much that has been written – including the words you
are currently reading, were derived from memory or
speculation, and often without documented confirmation.
Until and unless the government releases the Vietnam
files in their entirety, a degree of mystery will
               persist.

Judgments about the believability of the person(s)
sharing their stories will remain with the reader.
However, it should be considered that the participants
have no purpose to misrepresent history as they
               remember it.

I feel strongly that the reader needs to have a basic
understanding of our armed forces during the Vietnam
Conflict. Therefore, I have provided hyperlinks to our
government’s program: 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam
War. There, you will find a brief overview of the
United States military involvement in the Vietnam War.
