The Vietnam War Commemoration uses the term "Vietnam
veteran" to describe those who served on active duty in
the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of
November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of duty
location.
The Vietnam War Commemoration does not use the term
Vietnam War-Era. Nevertheless, “Era” is defined as a
fixed point in time from which a series of years is
acknowledged; therefore, I use the term Vietnam-Era
Veteran to describe all who served during that
specified period.
A criterion for inclusion in this book was that the
individual served during the “Vietnam-Era”, regardless
of duty location.
Military service during that time frame did not require
“in-country” duty to be considered a Vietnam Veteran.
However, only those individuals who served “in country”
are authorized to wear the Vietnam Service Medal.
