Tim just always did his own thing, and nothing seemed
to bother him. Our tour in Haiti was the worst for
him. He was two years old during that tour. He still
has vivid memories of the turmoil. He was so petrified
of all the things going on in Haiti. It was a
difficult and different life living in Haiti. The
Haitian people would steal from the Americans. Tim can
still remember the kids taking his toys. To this day
he still has bad feelings about Haiti. He graduated
high school while we were in Hawaii.
Elizabeth was born in D.C. and was the joy of all who
knew her. Ken was a Little League coach for Tim; she
was at every game. One day we looked up and she was
dragging a bat toward home plate like she was going to
play. She was two when Ken was last in Vietnam; she
was not aware of the seriousness of the situation.
Melanie is the baby and was not affected by her dad’s
Vietnam service. She was born after his return in
1974. All of us were affected by the fallout from
those tours.
Kenneth’s last overseas tour in ’82-83 was when
Elizabeth and Melanie were preteens; we could stay in
base housing, so, it was not as traumatic.
All our children were involved in sports and activities
all the time. All three daughters later became scout
leaders. Teresa was on the National Board of Girl
Scouting. She lives in Germany right now and is a
scout leader over there.
