SARA KLOPPING
                                                  LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY

                                                   PRIMARY CAREGIVER

Serving as a primary care giver for Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez for the past five years has been a treasured
opportunity. Hearing history, as they recall life’s adventures, is a uniquely wonderful way to learn.

From the first time I met their daughter, Carla, I felt honored to be entrusted with the care of her parents.
Carla shared some specifics about the stability of their strong relationship.

“The Rods” were an extraordinary couple. Even the commonly used nickname “The Rods” implies a
oneness; a togetherness, a richness achieved through decades of sharing.

Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez recently celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. Celebrating 66 years
on April 17, 2014, Rod and Lorraine still adore each other. Rod consistently showers his bride with
tender looks of a smitten groom, desiring only to please his beautiful beloved one. Lorraine is quick to
brag about Rod’s accomplishments; showing honor, respect and pride in her husband.

Working to assist the Rods with activities of daily life is both rewarding and challenging. A few parts of
this job come easily to me. I actually like to cook and clean and care for others.

Other job responsibilities are not so easy. I struggle with trying to keep my personal preferences
separate from my professional position. I have naturally become very close to The Rods and wish I could
change some current circumstances concerning their physical condition.

A life of self-discipline, healthy choices and hard work has served husband and wife well. Still, a sad slide
of decline has begun. Each individual’s earthy life must eventually end. Both Rod and Lorraine enjoy
remembering past adventures. They also enjoy every day. Laughter flows freely in their peaceful home.
