I took you the long way around the barn. Bear with me a moment more. I want you to focus on "flashbulb
memory" in the autobiographical memory paragraph above.
Specifically:
• Highly detailed
• Exceptionally vivid “snapshot
• Of a moment or circumstances
• In which surprising and consequential (or emotionally arousing) news was heard
• Strong emotions.
Autobiographical memory refers to a memory system consisting of:
• Episodes recollected from an individual’s own life
• Personal experiences
• Specific objects
• People
• Events experienced at particular times and places, and
• Semantic memory (general knowledge and facts about the world).
Now that you have explored “memory” here are my thoughts:
I believe it is possible to “dis-remember” or to block out the most conscious memory of specific events to
a certain degree to survive. Blocking the thought blocks the memory.
However, my unconscious memory is an all-controlling monster that visits me every single night and
multiple times throughout my every day on earth.
