The village of Pyeongtaek was a dangerous place to
visit. I only went in the shops during the day. My
friend, Gary, and I preferred to take a taxi to nearby
Osan Air Force Base. We could stay in the on-base
dormitory for five dollars a night. So, we’d eat good
American food at the NCO club, watch some shows, retire
for the night, then take a taxi back to Camp Humphreys.

I returned to the states on August 8, 1974, the day
before President Nixon resigned. I was shocked. I’d
read the Army Times and watch Armed Forces TV, but the
news was delayed by days, if not weeks. I was
surprised.
My last assignment as an enlisted soldier was, once
again not in my primary MOS. The only Primary MOS
assignment I had was my tour in Korea; go figure. I am
not complaining, just educating.
