Fort Carson was an interesting place. Once again, I
did not work in my primary MOS; I was assigned to
Battalion Headquarters and trained as the Legal Clerk.
I prepared legal briefs and typed Article 15 and
Courts-Martial papers. The job was challenging and
rewarding.
Fort Carson also gave me a special gift. My daughter
Michelle was my “Rocky Mountain High”; she was born in
the military hospital at Fort Carson.
Once again, I was in a position that protected me from
undesirable assignments. For example, I received
orders for duty in Alaska three times. The command at
Fort Carson simply made sure I stayed there. Finally,
in 1973, I received orders for Korea. I felt it my
duty to take that assignment.
I reported to a processing center in Seoul, South
Korea, and was assigned to Camp Humphreys, Pyeongtaek,
South Korea, with the 8 Army, 23d Support Group, 520
th
th
Maintenance Company, Rear Direct Support, Tech Supply
Platoon.
