General Frederick Carlton Weyand
Commander of U.S. Military Operations
1972 -1973
General Weyand was a United States Army general; he was
the last commander of U.S. military operations in the
Vietnam War. He also served as the 28th U.S. Army
Chief of Staff from 1974 to 1976.
A nonconformist from General Westmoreland's more
conventional war strategy; Weyand's experience as a
former intelligence officer gave him a “better”
understanding of the enemy's objectives.
Weyand convinced General Westmoreland to redeploy
troops from the Cambodian border closer to Saigon.
That move contributed to making the 1968 Tet Offensive
a military mishap for North Vietnam.
