NOTE
As you read each Veteran’s story and review their
awards, please pay special attention to those “In-
Country” Veterans’ awards; not all of them show the
Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
As of the publication of this book, Requests for
Correction of Military Service Records remain pending
for each “In-Country” Veteran whose medals do not
include the Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

award.
The Vietnam Service Medal
Authorized for “In-Country” Service
The Vietnam Service Medal is awarded to members of the
armed forces who served in Vietnam or contiguous waters
or air space, after July 3, 1965.
Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Gallantry Cross
The Vietnamese Government issued the award to all
during the period 8 February 1962 and 28 March 1973 and
to U.S. Army Vietnam and its subordinate units for the
period 20 July 1965 to 28 March 1973. This permits all
personnel who served in Vietnam to wear the RVN
Gallantry Cross unit citation.
