Nearby Mannheim is the wonderful city of Heidelberg.
During my first tour of duty, my son Jason was born in
a military hospital near Heidelberg, West Germany.
Jason held dual citizenship until his eighth birthday.
Yes, he opted to be an American.
On a subsequent tour of duty in Germany, I would take
my children on boat trips down the Rhine River. We
experienced the adventure of spending the night in a
castle overlooking the Rhine, near the very spot where
the Legend of the Lorelei began.
