Looking at people of my generation, we are in our early
seventies and we have chilled out a little bit, even
the hippies. If you talk to some of the old-time
hippies, they will tell you, “Man all we were doing was
making it through the day.” I don't think the
attitudes have changed; I think their position has
matured quite a bit.
When I look back on my military career, the number one
thing I take away is the opportunity. The government
gave me opportunities. I made the choice to serve my
country.
It was an honor serving my country; I can think of no
greater “service” than that in which a citizen has
taken an oath to support and defend, with his or her
life, the American way.
I continue serving by volunteering, speaking out,
speaking up, and voting.
