They sent us by train to Marine Corps Recruit Depot,
Parris Island, South Carolina.

When we arrived at Parris Island Train Station, we got
all lined up and this one guy asked a question; he got

knocked off his feet; that’s when I knew to keep my
mouth shut.

I got rated as number one in physical fitness; they
used to bet on me as a matter of fact. I beat every
one of them except one time when I miscounted.
